For reasons out of our control, a tough decision was made not to import Loui to Australia a few years ago. Loui resides with his much loved Owner/Breeder Angela Evans and family of Oleka Bernese in the USA. Angela has been kind enough to save Semen from this wonderful boy for us to use here at Malicloy...
Loui's sire is "Tschuggen" (Am/Can Ch Tschuggen V Sennenhof, Am/Can CD, Can DDX), a dog that I co-handled at the 2007 US National Specialty in Louisville (hence Loui's name), Kentucky. Tschuggen was an amazing dog and he made me proud when we won 1st place in the stud dog class against tough competition.
Loui's dam "Grace" was bred by Nancy Copestick of "Cope's Bernese". She is a beautiful bitch with an amazing head and gorgeous expression. She is of moderate size but well balanced. Her temperament is second to none, as displayed by her attaining her obedience and carting titles with ease. Grace's sire (Loui's Grandsire) is a dog called "Christopher" (Keilissa's In White Satin Armour). I still to this day have not set eyes on a more beautiful and more correct Bernese. He epitomises what I love about a Bernese. In the 2007 US National, Christopher came 2nd overall and hence got the first place AOM (Award of Merit), a high honour indeed...
I can't express how much I am appreciative to both Eve Menengoz of Sennenhof Kenels, and Angela Evens of Oleka Bernese for keeping and raising Loui.
We finally got to meet Loui in person at the 2012 American National Specialty at Gettysburg USA. Angela brought him to the National for Ben to show and we had a great time getting to know Loui and his family (Angela & Joe). After the National we got to spend some more time with Angela, Joe and the rest of their dogs at their home nestled in the very picturesque Oley Valley. What a beautiful part of the world! It was great to see Loui in his home environment and verified that we definitely want Loui to be a part of our breeding program here at Malicloy.
We were all so very excited when Loui was placed 4th in the Versatility class against some very stiff competition, the first 3 placed dogs having won high awards at previous National Specialties in the USA. Thanks to Judge Joanne Gerow of Indian Hills Bernese for recognising the quality of this boy "Loui".
Loui is such a gentleman and moves with the true power and impulsion that a Bernese should. Never in all the time I've shown, have I had a dog on the lead that moves so effortlessly but with such power and drive. It felt great!
A credit to Angela at "Oleka" and her breeding program...
