Derek would have to be the sweetest male Berner we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. His temperament is exactly what the Bernese Standard calls for...he is friendly, fearless and outgoing...a most devoted family member!
Derek is a true gentleman and everyone falls in love with him!!! He is our resident clown and we love him dearly...
Derek moves like a dream, with no effort and great reach and drive! Derek's extension in the rear is phenomenal..he has great propulsion with no wasted gate and his foot timing is fabulous. Derek has a superb headpiece, with lovely eyes and the nicest expression. He has a near-perfect symmetrical head marking and lovely whites. He has a beautiful broad deep chest and strong level topline. He is well-balanced and has correct body proportions, something we at Malicloy strive for. If we were to critique Derek, we would have to say we would prefer a little more length of neck! He has an excellent tailset, however his tail carriage could be better! Standing at around 26.5 inches, Derek is a good-sized dog with more than adequate bone and substance.
Being an athletic and active boy, he is really well-muscled and presents as a strong, powerful Bernese with an amazing work ethic. Derek's pedigree is very sound orthopaedically and he himself has excellent AVA (hip & elbow) and PennHip scores. We can't wait to see how Derek fully matures, as he is now only a little over 2 years of age!
We showed Derek under Breed Specialist Satu Yla-Mononen from Finland in June 2010 as a baby puppy.
She said of Derek.....
"Excellent proportion. Correct bite, nice dark eyes. Strong bones. Short neck. Excellent tailset. Short croup. Moves well. Good coat and colours. Lovely temperament."
